Paedophile jailed for 'heinous' sex crimes
A paedophile from Worcestershire has been jailed for rape and other sex offences against a child.
Robert Hampton, 77, of Malvern, was sentenced to 18 years at Worcester Crown Court.
The charges also included three sexual assaults, one count of attempted rape and two counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Det Con Hannah Croft, of West Mercia Police, welcomed the sentence and commended the victim and their family for their bravery in coming forward.
Hampton, of Somers Court in Upper Howsell Road, committed the offences between July 2007 and July 2011.
'Heinous crimes'
Hampton, who was sentenced on Monday, will also spend a year on licence after his release and will be on the sex offenders register for life.
Det Con Croft said: "Hampton is a dangerous individual and I’m glad his sentence reflects the heinous crimes he committed.
"I hope, if anything positive is to come out of today, is that it gives other victims the confidence to come forward and speak with the police."
Hampton had denied the charges but was convicted.
